this is more than just laundry, folks.
this stack of napkins here represents the amount of paper that my office did not send to the landfill. i made them out of old tablecloths and sheets to encourage my coworkers to reduce their personal waste.
my 2 coworkers and i formed the green team last fall and have not only started internal paper recycling but got the building to start a recycling program. score one for the little guys.
one of the first things the green team was encourage everyone to shut off their lights when they were at a meeting or at lunch. it was remarkable how many people picked up on it. the lights in our kitchen are off most of the time. huzzah!
so i figured i'd see if they'd pick up other good habits if i gently encourage them. the napkins have been well received so far, thank goodness. one person said, "this is great, i'm going to start doing this at home," which is exactly what i was hoping would happen!
this pile here represents about two weeks worth of various linens that pd and i use at home - napkins at meals, towels instead of paper towels, and old washcloths for household cleaning. this is how much i'm not sending to the landfill!

aaaaand my fabric arrived! hooray. unfortunately i was not able to order exactly what i wanted but i thought what the hey........
it's pretty hard to tell but the blues actually clash pretty badly. ugh.
the houndstooth fabric is awesome. it's this funky heavyweight stuff, i don't even know what it's called. but it's really fun.

and i'll use a bit of these, but not too much. the houndstooth is really fantastic so i might use it for a purse or something....

I think my office needs to hire you as a green consultant!!! Actually, this is a pretty cool idea for a freelance business! If someone could come to my Event Network Group to tell me how to socially network using Facebook and Linkedin, just IMAGINE the demand for a green team!
I've taken to making sure things are unplugged around the house. Stove, coffeemaker, microwave (I don't need no stinkin' clock!) And the TV and computers are both on power stips so off they go...every little bit.

YEAH - I love fabric napkins...that is what we use for dinner. I need to make some prettier ones for when guests come over. And I am joining a clothesline challenge do that drying them will conserve less too.

dayna- that wrap-n-mat thing is awesome!! i bet we could make that. i have been thinking about putting together green kits as gifts for xmas -- that would be a great addition. hey, maybe that's what we can all make together??? i read of a group of people at buff state got together to knit scarves for the homeless - we could make wrap n mats for the environmentally unfriendly!
and jennifer i would absolutely love to help greenify your office. i'll do it pro bono! actually, that is a fantastic challenge--- offering free consulting if people pledge to bring the habits back home. hmm...
i need to take a picture of the notepads i made at work, i have about 6 tablets that i made using chris' suggestion.
